My random hot take is that Obama saying "fever may break after the election" that one time ruined a generation of elected leader's political imagination on how to beat extremism.

He's like Churchhill if he only praised Hitler and didn't genocide a bunch of Indians. It's not fascism precisely, but very supportive of Fascism in it's proper place (everywhere else.)
