I think “the economy is good right now but people are unhappy with it” discourse has genuinely cooked some people’s brains. the phenomenon here is that, in the past, attitudes about the economy tracked certain metrics that all of a sudden they don’t track anymore.

the way I know I’m still an evangelical is that if you cannot demonstrate to me either that the Bible says something is wrong or that it harms someone, it will be very difficult for me to find your argument compelling

I have strong opinions about how one should order pizza for a group of people. Principle number one is that cheese is the type you should order the most of, principle two is that ordering a pizza with every vegetable topping is a huge mistake

orthogonal to the main point but: I’m not sure if equating the kind of giving to others the Bible describes with making donations to your particular church is responsible handling of the scriptures

Traveling, so I visited a mainline church for the first time in a couple years. Nice old church with a friendly congregation, they sang the opening hymn, said the collect, seated the congregation, and then, in place of an old testament reading, instead launched into a lengthy fundraising appeal

I just can’t even pretend to take you seriously if you think singing about the blood of Jesus in church is “bloodlust”

it would be helpful for all participants in theological conversation to recognize that universalism ≠ “all paths lead to salvation.” not really trying to take some sort of stand on the matter, I really just hate imprecision and conflation
