Pianist Martina Consonni has a Πάντα ῥεῖ ("everything flows," attributed to Heraclitus) tattoo. Brilliant phrase for music making! Her performance of R. Schumann's Papillons here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDn1...

Was curious it came from Fremont. Found this, June 1917. www.ragtimepiano.ca/images/vol3n...

A new WTC to try on, why not? If I'm not mistaken, this is the fellow who hosts From the Top. #Bach

Early yesterday, before the heat took over. Start of the third row always a little precarious.
Moar. Hot.

Apple Hill! (Was there at a concert the year before.)

If I had noticed this fingering the first time around, I could have saved myself weeks of grief over this section. 🎹👎

Detail from the Villa dei Misteri mural in Pompeii. Look at the marbling up top! Two millennia old and breathtaking, the whole thing.

Stunning. I spent many minutes in that room with my mouth wide open.

On a scale of one to amazing, how amazing is the Library of Congress?

Everything is terrible, so please enjoy this peony from last month.

Really enjoying these Reinecke piano concertos, a composer new to me. Fewer fireworks from the soloist, more integration between the piano and the orchestration. I guess I like that?

Once again, the infernal (pun very much intended) heat decided when I was done. Slow going.

Think of the prose draft as the walls of a house. Then Vergil did a coat of paint on different wall sections, not in order, until the whole house had a first coat. Then he applied a 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc coat on some parts, & died before a final coat on all. More: publishing.cdlib.org/ucpressebook...
According to Suetonius, Virgil first wrote the entire Aeneid in prose—and only then recast it into verse.

Important confession here. I'm saving it and so should you. Screencap via bsky.app/profile/karl...

If you are Homeric Greek-less and want to feel how in some respects the Iliad enters the ear and the bloodstream, may I suggest.

Heat dictated the endpoint again. Bad news: no birch in this year's wood (nice smell, bark brilliant at starting a fire). Good news: no birch in this year's wood (I waste half my time stripping the birch bark off to collect it for starting fires).

Did not know: "Every pension dollar distributed in the Granite State generated $1.70 in local economic output." Seems like "pensions are good for business, actually" is a story worth telling. www.nhrs.org/about-nhrs/n...

Too hot to do more. It's a start at least.

Heard the BWV 825 Prelude this morning and because I have no discipline at all with this hobby, put it back on the stand (I learned it once) to compete with my actual practice work (Schumann's Papillons). A truly magnificent work of art, this. #Bach

Ugh, don't want to use the metronome on this part. Will slow everything down! 🎹 [repeats opinion for three more practices] [uses metronome at fourth practice] [weeks long problem solved in ten minutes]
