Wow. Meta has blocked all links to the Kansas Reflector—the nonprofit newsroom that broke the story of the Marion County Record police raid—likely because they published a column this morning criticizing the platform's censorship of climate change-related ads.

It also came to me in a dream once that Meta has or had a team of people investigating employees who accept payments from fixers to help powerful users manipulate the platform. for example: hardcoding accounts onto a whitelist so they become immune to moderation.
NEW: A local Kansas news site published a column critical of Facebook—then Meta banned all their links.

It’s currently blocking most news media in Canada as part of a pissing match with the federal government, although everyone seems to be treating that as old news now 😕
I'm in Canada and I assure you many of us do not care, because our news media is an endless stream of carefully curated downers tailored to keep us glued to our screens and life is better since the feds screwed this up.
In fact I will vote for the libs more so they can keep screwing up like this.

Haugen's leak? They contained a lot of awful things -- I reported on them too -- but a plan to suppress specific types of information shared on Facebook to push the "world's opinion" on certain topics was not among them
You reported on them too. How much work exactly did you produce? If you weren't combing through them for nine months with a team of PhD candidates I don't think we were doing the same kind of reporting.

I think these stories alone demonstrate Facebook's effort to control information on a mass scale in a way that benefits the company exclusively, as well as its willingness to bend its own rules to benefit power users and to avoid criticism.
