Happy Vicksburg Victory Day!! The Civil War Era should be studied & celebrated (warts & all) by leftists in the US as an period that made amazing advances in human liberty while also involving betrayals of the same principles.
Most of all it's an era (bookending the war by ~15 years both ways) that was sculpted by a trackable, dialectic interplay of macro trends & black swan events, actions of major figures & large collectives of unnamed actors. And that's worth understanding to guide our actions today
