I wrote a blog: markfabian.blogspot.com/2024/07/what... I am in favour of going 'beyond GDP' but so much of the advocacy is bad. I used to blog a lot but stopped to concentrate on academic papers, and because my blogs tend to be polemical in a career-compromising way. This one is no exception.

I agree - publishers have become interested only in whether authors have £10k for OA, not in the quality of the book. Incentives favour vanity publishing by those with large grants, as the scheme is currently structured.
