Now listening to a really transfixing new album, How Will I Live Without a Body?, by Loma, a band of American and UK musicians with a whispery post-punk, bedroom indie sound. It’s a good album to listen to in one sitting. The shifting tones and dynamics tell a whole story.

The UK jazz/house musician berlioz (Jasper Attlee) describes his sound as “if Matisse made house music” and his debut LP mostly lives up to that. In his newsletter, he breaks down the new album track by track:

Now listening to the new album, Thugs from Amritsar, by Pataka Boys. Hip-hop exploring the Indian Diaspora, it’s complex and layered. Mellow, insistent.

When you think about it, the hardest rules in writing are: 1. Hydrate. 2. Coffee does not count as hydration. Drink water too. 3. Eat. 4. Get enough sleep. 5. Do not overwork your wrists. 6. Don't befriend people who constantly neg their writing process. Everything else is a guideline.

Also, for what it’s worth, maybe 1/3 of the people I follow on here were discovered through this feed. Y’all listen to interesting stuff!
I don’t know if everyone on here uses feeds, but 1) they’re a very easy way to discover more of the stuff that interests you on Bluesky and 2) I made a simple one that lets you see what people are posting about listening to, and I enjoy it a lot.

Now listening to abstract experimental electronic music by German audiovisual artist Alva Noto. Interesting to learn from this review that the three albums in this series were composed as ballets. It’s immersive and minimalist in a way you can get lost in.
Alva Noto ~ HYbr:ID IIIacloserlisten.com Alva Noto (aka Carsten Nicolai) is a minimalist musician, audio-visual artist, and sound designer par excellence who has been producing an unremitting, sui generis body of work for nearly thirty years...

Sorrow craves acknowledgment and expression, not repression or cheering up. Pain is a sign of vitality, and acknowledging it gives us eyes to recognize it when it's sitting across the kitchen table. -Mariana Alessandri // this book is great
In the dark, we can see that people who have the most legitimate anger are often the first to be called irrational...In the dark, we can see that anger is to be trained, not suppressed or managed. Listen to your anger. Study it. Name it. Use it to "excavate honesty." -Mariana Alessandri

I just started reading *Night Vision: Seeing Ourselves through Dark Moods*, by Mariana Alessandri and it’s proposing a really interesting paradigm shift. “What we need going forward is to stop trying to shed light on darkness and instead learn to see in the dark.”

So good to know that D.C. punk is alive, well, and extra girly. New album by Bacchae is noisy punk rock that could have been made in the 80s, but also sounds very now. Title track, “Next Time,” is a favorite. #newmusic

Now listening to new experimental hip hop from the innovative Compton producer Channel Tres. It’s hard to pin to a genre. From industrial house to nu-disco with a lot in between. Intriguingly sinister.
