I thought it was telling that the platform left out mention of the Equal Protection Clause even though it would presumably apply just as forcefully to the unborn. Under Equal Protection theory, there’s no need to enact a new abortion-murder law; it’d be required by the Constitution.
It’s a sleight of hand. Equal Protection comes right after Due Process. Why leave it out? States don’t need to be empowered by any part of the Constitution to legislate on a subject, so that’s a red herring (or a vestige of a draft where they claim Congress would be empowered by 14A).
Equal Protection for zygotes was the Easter egg the Alabama Supreme Court left in their statutory interpretation decision that outlawed IVF. That’s the sleeper provision to send doctors and others to death row. Bitter irony of it.
