I am disgusted and enraged. Like Charlotte ND said, I stand with victims of sexual assault. I have advocated for citational practices in the academy that prevent sexual abusers’ work from being elevated. But here I am having co-edited a book on the work of just such an abuser!

At the end of June, @shaynasheinfeld.bsky.social , @metalbiblescholar.bsky.social & I announced that our book on Good Omens & the Bible, was published. We are proud of the scholarship in that book. Then the world learned that Neil Gaiman had been accused of sexual assault by two women.
This labour of love is finally with the printers. Congrats to my co-editors, @shaynasheinfeld.bsky.social & Charlotte N D, and all the contributors. And of course thank you to @neilhimself.neilgaiman.com and Terry Pratchett for writing such a beloved book. sheffieldphoenix.com/product/good...

Just a reminder that "Judeo-christian" values are just way to blame Jews for Christian nationalism, and just because they steal the Torah doesn't make us belief buddies. Judeo-christian values are just Christian values in fancy dress.

100%, the idea that the only possible relation between Muslims and Jews is a zero-sum game where one group must suffer is itself a white supremacist assumption that benefits only white supremacists.

It's a great book. My theology on Tap group read it and found it fascinating. They still reference it once in a while. We were fortunate to have another of the contributors join us for our last night discussing it.

So thrilled to see this acknowledgement of the award for our book Jewish and Christian Women in the Ancient Mediterranean in this month's SBL Member spotlight @drmjcwarren.bsky.social

This is such an important point. Anti-semitism serves as the link holding together racism, xenophobia, transphobia, eugenics, and much more. "Great Replacement" theories, fears of emasculation and gender fluidity, anti-Black agitprop about crime. Anti-semitism is the mortar between the bricks.
I've said this before but I want to repeat it very blatantly: Antisemitism is NOT just hatred of Jews. It is a mythology that helps people make sense of the world. When people take the step into the mythology, they enter a very deep realm of conspiracy theorizing. It is a totalizing worldview.

Today I taught 3 classes, attended a departmental meeting, attended a faculty meeting that ran almost an hour over, and attended a zoom meeting about how the clergy team at our synagogue will communicate with parents about their child's bnei mitzvah learning/progress. I'm zonked.

I am giving away some academic books on Classics and Ancient History. I would pay for some of the shipping (or all if not too high). @metalclassicist.bsky.social @shaynasheinfeld.bsky.social If you know students, faculty or any interested people, it would be my pleasure. More to come :)

Very excited that this finally is published! There is far too little scholarship that addresses the stereotyping that makes male sex abuse victims complicit to their own abuse. Very illuminating to explore the rape of Lot by his daughters from that POV.

It's been almost 3 for my daughter and Long Covid is still going strong: chronic fatigue, hard time breathing, migraines, chronic pain. It may be "most cases" but in my experience sufferers just learn how to live with it.
Good news about a bad thing: Two big studies just appeared in Nature and JAMA suggesting that in most cases the risks from even serious Long COVID fades after 1.5-2 yrs. Until this, there'd been a lot of (understandable!) fears that it could last for a lifetime. But for most people, it seems not.

Our darling Gilligan woke us up with a seizure this morning. He's had two more since. I hear now it's not uncommon for dogs, but it is sad and stressful regardless
