We've officially moved, I say, sitting in a shirt spattered w olive oil from a not-quite-closed bottle, in front of a coffee table full of mugs. There are also mugs on the kitchen island. And on top of the moving boxes full of books. The dining table, however, is full of tools. Everything is chaos.

I mean you haven't really moved until you've doused yourself in something from that bottle you were sure you closed tightly before packing it

My "haven't moved in until" rule is that you haven't moved in until the first post -move trip to Target.

Yes! Used to be Bed Bath and Beyond for me

BB&B or Target for apartments (not counting the trips you made to get a few carry-overs before you found where your other set was packed); Home Depot / etc for houses.

Home Depot is where your soul goes to die. Give me Cole or Ace any day.

My Home Depot is actually in walking distance, so I accept that a little piece of my soul must die ever so often. For ceiling hooks. And garden hose sprayers. And light bulbs. And ... And....and ...🫥

You haven't truly lived (died?) until you've bought a whole-ass door at Home Depot

I bought a custom-built kitchen countertop does that count? Worst experience ever. The sample of the material they gave me was pure white. The actual counter had chunks of tan in it. The sample piece was just strategically cut between the tan bits to not show them.

Oh my God please say you got your money back!

Nope I just lived with it 😭

At that point you’re really in Builder’s FirstSource territory.

I've got an Ace Hardware nearby that used to be Orchard Supply Hardware before Sears Holdings bought the chain, sucked the money out, sold the remains to Lowes, which eventually closed it. They don't handle a lot of lumber, but they're big enough for most of my hardware needs and closer than H.D.

I will drive all over town (it's not that big) to the independent tool store, Home Hardware, Windsor, and all the dusty cinderblock industrial suppliers, just to avoid that place (and its customers: love hearing couples being Fraught with each other, and getting unsolicited advice from DIY Dads™).
