I appreciate a good sympathetic reading, but ultimately you will not change the people who insist that Trump is a more honest choice for progressives. that's because the whole motive there is punitive--not about the slow, often demoralizing work of activism so much as sticking it to Joe Biden.
The other option is they were never really left leaning. The chapo boys, for instance, have always been pretty despicable in terms of humor and commentary, could easily see them saying "the right things" to cover up for some rather libertarian talking points.
as someone who's listened to the show since almost the beginning I have always found this view deeply ignorant. you're more accurately describing Red Scare than Chapo. Chapo are very pessimistic and critical but they're not cynics like your Hinkles or your Peter Coffins.
