Why *did* we think tech advancement was going to be quick in the early 80s?

Most of the guys who created Blade Runner were born in the 1930s, rapid & obvious tech advancement was all they'd ever known

Ridley Scott was born while Orville Wright was still alive! Phillip K. Dick's parents could have looked out their Chicago window and seen working horses on the street.

Blade Runner would have been more realistic if it had showed old folks living in condos in Simi Valley looking into LA in 2024 like "that shithole needs more lanes for our flying cars"

Putting mind boggling numbers on it: there were only 66 years between Kitty Hawk and landing on the moon - and the world had spent the century before that almost visibly winding up to that absurd rate of change and development.
