The big problem is that, while Trump is definitely way further gone than Biden, the main way he's further gone is a complete absence of any tether to reality--but it's something you only notice if you realize that nothing he's saying is true or makes sense.
And most voters are too ignorant to know.

Trump's one of those old ppl who gets louder, angrier, and more emotional as he fades. Biden's slow compared to where he was but can still put everything together with enough time.
But the former is only visible if you both know what Trump's talking about and pay attention.
Biden's slowness, on the other hand, is painfully obvious.
And of course Trump goes to ludicrous lengths to partially hide his age with makeup and probably with medical procedures, while Biden isn't vain enough to do that with anything but his teeth.
Explaining that Trump is old would require journalists to actually *do journalism*.
You can explain Biden is old with some videos and gossip from anonymous sources.
So naturally the NYT is all in on "Biden Old".
