Everyone still talks about this recent sketch, but all I see is SNL taking the easy way out of using Beavis and Butt-Head’s copyright safe Skull and Death Rock tees instead of the AC/DC and Metallica shirts they always wear. A cowardly move away from accurate outfit comedy!
Beavis and Butt-Head wear AC/DC & Metallica tees because they satirize metal-loving teens of 1993. However, when MTV merchandises the show, they don’t want to pay to license the pricey band logos, so the boys wear the inferior Skull & Death Metal tees on merch. SNL repeated that folly
Please let the spread of this sketch alert you to the fact that Beavis and Butt-Head is a brilliant satire. The new episodes and film on Paramount Plus are some of my favorite comedy of the last few years, everyone should watch the new stuff as well as rediscovering the original
And I don’t know, but I would guess that SNL used the Skull and Death Rock shirts because they didn’t have time to get permission from Metallica and AC/DC. Really only have Thursday and Friday to do it, need to get a yes from lots of musicians, may have been impossible.
