I thought it was a gutsy move on his part and said so here. He either found some happy farmers or the French freaked when they realized where their grievances politics were taking them and made left turn!
I would not give Macron this victory- but rather attribute it to the left who had also gained ground along with the far right-and had candidates willing to step aside in this last round to insure Le Pen didn’t win. It was pretty clear that many of Macron’s candidates weren’t wiling to do the same.
Honestly, this has absolutely made my week, I expected the Tories to be booted out but this? Had so many far reaching implications. It’s not over but it’s a massive step in the right (or left) direction.
I'm a little bit delighted by the idea that they honestly thought they were the unstoppable tide of history until a couple of hours ago :) and now they get to be completely irrelevant.
And me. I have wondered previously, whether the 2010’s was a decade of push back against whatever was deemed to be anything that could be accused of being establishment. And immediately would turn to the anti version. Having been there and done it, the veneer has been removed?
I think the fury ironically was possibly on occasions justified. The result of the fury however was then misplaced in where it was vented. In the 2010s dissatisfaction with lots of non link things seemed in my view to then collate behind one option with little/no link to the individual’s anger.
Ah yes, more blame game. My problem was trusting my carefully selected reps, like Patti Murray and then seeing her dismissal of emails and information. I know few in Congress who listen much to voters anymore, even pre 45.
To say I am nonplussed is an understatement. Do I feel guilt?
nope.
It was a big gamble by Macron to call a snap election after such a drubbing in the European elections, when his presidency still has so long to run.
He's lucky that it didn't end up far worse than it apparently has (if the exit polls are to be believed).
