The UK Government will legislate for automatic voter registration.

The forthcoming King’s Speech is still being put together but it will include at least 30 bills including the formation of clean energy company GB Energy, devolution of a range of powers to mayors and councils and new border security.

The new Chancellor Rachel Reeves will also be introducing the Anti-Truss Bill (my words) - ensuring the Office for Budget Responsibility will publish independent assessments of major fiscal events so the UK never again gets a Liz Truss farrago that almost destroyed the economy.

Except any new Conservative government could do the opposite, scrap the law and then wreck the economy again.

Or see the assessment published and carry on anyway.

So are you suggesting that the government passes no new bills, does nothing good, and just let's time go by? What you posted is very defeatist.

Not at all, I was was pointing out is that the next non-Labour government can reverse actions the Labour government has taken. Just as Labour have reversed solar farm bans, allowing offshore wind and have put a stop to new oil exploration licenses. It doesn't mean do nothing.

Starmer is coming under some party pressure to do that. It may require dropping spending elsewhere though.

The more pressure he gets from 'the left', the less likely it is that it will be speedily changed. Reeves knows it's shit and wants to change it when it can be afforded, but being seen to "cave in to left-wing demands" isn't going to politically happen sooner, more likely later.

After reading the public comments about the Child Poverty & the 2 Child benefits cap Article in The Guardian my heart sank with despair I agree with you that any push back from the left, or indeed the centre, will make Reeves and Starmer even less likely to end the cap The Losers are the Children

He doesn't come across to me as someone that allows others to dictate his path.

Might this create an unconscious association between GB News and GB Energy, for some uninformed folk? Since Johnson, I'm allergic to 'great' in any title. Please could we call it (eg) 'UK Energy'?

Probably better. I don’t know if it will operate in NI or not though, which could be a reason.

Britain/British then. (After all, none of us are likely to get confused about Brittany)
