Actual conversation with a tube employee (TE) in London yesterday. Me: is the tube schedule affected in any way by election day tomorrow? TE: it is not an election day tomorrow. Me: Ehh... Are you sure? TE to fellow employee: is it an election day tomorrow? FE: Yes. TE to me: well, I guess not.

Having elections on a week day is just telling your citizens not to bother voting

Election days should be public/bank holidays IMO.

💯. Absolutely, but I am also a firm believer in compulsory voting. It may be paradoxical in nature, but that’s fine. I think it’s good for democracy. Gives people more reason to be involved.

It’s possible to have compulsory voting and election day public holidays simultaneously. More public holidays is a good thing IMO and it would encourage people to focus on the election rather than treat it as another task to do on the weekend.

Oh yeah agree entirely. I do think also that in Australia we tend to celebrate voting to a large degree & a public holiday would enhance that

For sure. I want more food stalls on election day!
