I got to attend the American Library Association’s conference #ALAAC24 — *so* inspiring! Librarians and teachers are stars. The love of reading all around; quality time with my agency, #kidlit author/illustrator friends & editors. All the books! Can ALA just *always* be in San Diego?

I see so many friends & illustrators leaving Instagram. It feels like the right move for all the horrible AI reasons (and it’s been ages since i felt like my posts had any visibility anyway) but it also feels like a loss of a creative community and like starting over in a defeated way.

Home from a trip visiting friends. It’s been years since i did this kind of tour: stayed at friends houses, did what they do. If i’d stayed at hotels, I’d never hear the voices my friends use with their pets or see the plants in their gardens or the colors of their socks. Their lovely lives.

Depression and anxiety are a beast. i am really grateful for the friends who have been consistent in my life, especially this past year.

Ten years ago, my first picture book* came out. *WHAT WILL HATCH? By Jennifer Ward, illustrated by me! Published by Bloomsbury. It’s a non-fiction picture book about animals that hatch from eggs. Working on this book began a seismic shift to both my art and life in so many ways.

Excited to get to work today 💛

A friend got me the pen, another got me the ink, another got me the mug, another the tea in it. Feeling well loved by my friends today 🤍

I always walk by this tree in my neighborhood with bark that peels off like sheets of paper. One day, i pulled off some and wrote a letter on it. 💌
