I actually think it’s unfair to ask judges to understand chemical naming conventions (which is why they should defer to scientists!)
Still marveling at Gorsuch's Ohio v. EPA opinion, in which he confused nitrogen oxide (a pollutant) with nitrous oxide (laughing gas). He did this five times, never once getting it right—in an opinion overruling the EPA's own expert scientific analysis! s3.documentcloud.org/documents/24...

one thing that always strikes me is that the Justices of the Supreme Court are... really uneducated? Borderline innumerate, etc. They know the made-up game of pretend called "Law" a little bit, but when it comes to any factual knowledge they're ignorant & incurious

I've had conversations with pro-atheletes before and outside their sport they knew pretty much nothing. I assume this is how it works with these judges too. Which is why they should have no say in anything outside their very specific expertise.
