So, you get hit in the knee with an arrow. You're not an adventurer anymore. Years later you still limp, but the arrow? Nowhere to be seen. It did its work in an instant. This is #LongCovid. You no longer test positive for the virus, but you're not an adventurer anymore.

Rephrasing: "Long COVID" does not mean "having COVID for a long time." It means the virus disabled you. Yes, that's a thing viruses can do. Don't give this one the chance. I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

Was drawn in by the Skyrim reference, only to agree with all points. No lollygaggin'!

Viruses can also trigger POTS/Dysautonomia, covid especially so. If your clinician hasn't already discussed it, it's worth looking into. Just getting that diagnosis was a huge thing for me, to have an actual explanation for all I was feeling

An arrow to the shoulder muscle.

This was my OH (foreground, right) before ME/CFS, gutting someone not taking her seriously back in the mid 80s Before she got ME/CFS, similar to Long COVID As you say, that stuff stops your adventuring life

Very apt description. Coincidentally, sadly, my personal mantra for daily motivation before Covid/long Covid was ”Adventure awaits!”, and then I’d run out the door to seek wonderful things. Now I can barely walk a block w my walker. Covid hit me like an arrow to the belly; 1335 days of HELL since

I'm not quite as bad off, but yeah.

Taking an arrow to the knee, was the Viking term for getting married. It limited your adventuring, so I understand. However, with that said I am so sorry that you are suffering from Long COVID. May you recover soon and well.

Maybe I should point out that I have never played Skyrim, just studied Norse history.

After 40 months I've given up on "soon" and "well," and am holding out for "maybe a little bit, someday."

Solidarity. Reporting from a duration of Feb. 2020 to whatever month we are at now... I'm better. Not WELL, but better. My body is like a classic car. Gotta use the special fuel and tinker with it a lot, but if I do, it functions. Beats my low point of sleeping through 2022.

That's quite interesting tho, it ads more context to that voice line in Skyrim.

Shit, that’s the most descriptive, concise & ELI5 description I’ve read, well done and thanks, I’m gonna use it

This may be the nerdiest possible way to convey this info and I love that you did this.

My partner started a new Skyrim character and it has been fun to watch (when I don’t have a #LongCOVID headache). Maybe I can be a guard in Whiterun someday…?
