Please note the wildly incorrect polling in France. No matter what the cacophony of pundits keep saying, polls are not predictive, and are never the end of the story. Organizing, volunteering, engaging in conversation, and direct action are effective tools. Let's use them here too.
BREAKING NEWS: Voters turned out in numbers not seen in decades to stop the far-right National Rally from taking power in the French National Assembly. Polls predicted a first-place finish for National Rally, which instead came in third in initial results as polling stations closed.

The only thing the GOP knows how to do is punish people for the crime of being poor.
The governors of a dozen Republican-led states — AL, AK, FL, GA, IA, MS, OK, SC, SD, TX, UT, WY — opted out of a new federal food assistance program, leaving about 9.5 million students without the aid this summer

Organizers got enough signatures to put a measure protecting abortion on the ballot in Arkansas. In *Arkansas*. They had *no national support*. Ignore the pundits melting down over not being treated as Very Special Boys. Dobbs has fundamentally changed elections. Everything they know is wrong.

“They want to eliminate national parks” is a very simple way to get just about anyone on the Stop Project 2025 train. Are there much more glaring and life-threatening goals of P25? Yes but even your most bigoted cousin does not want to see the parks system sold for parts.
This!! Start with “they want to end no fault divorce, sell national parks, and ban porn” end with tax structure.

When people explain what their local public libraries meant to them as children, it’s so often about exactly this. 📚
Lots of trauma survivors became voracious readers, because of all the things our abusers & bullies took from us, they couldn't take away our ability to read. Turns out: if you can read, you can connect w/ survivors & strategies & tools you never would have known existed. Read.

Remember 2020, when all of us huddled in our homes, trying not to get covid, watched trump, sneering, tell us to take dewormer and inject bleach? We all said: "I don't care who his opponent is. I'd vote for a houseplant to keep him out of office." I'm literally begging y'all to keep that promise.

Something I’ve been reflecting on this week: Predators choose their targets. Often that means picking people with little institutional power or cultural capital; frequently that overlaps with youth or marginalized group membership. 1/

Recap: 1. The Times runs a scandal piece on how Biden administration lobbied not to publish age guidelines for youth trans care, because those guidelines could be politically abused. 2. Pressed by the Times, the administration puts age limits on trans care much more severe than the guidelines.

This conversation is held bimonthly in disability spaces tbh. I'm not going to tell anybody how to feel or what to do but I do think more folks should be aware of the dynamic at play. These replies are informative.
So many of my informed Covid-cautious mutuals have been blocked by Matthew Cortland way before he accused me of misinfo when facts in Merck Manual link provided. Blocked me when I pointed it out & provided 2 more proof points. My spider-senses are tingling, he’s a bad faith actor, isn’t he?

A hill I will die on: all white-collar crimes are violent crimes. It's just that the violence is removed from the perpetrator because the perpetrator is wealthy.
Holy. Shit. They're literally saying Trump's felonies aren't that bad compared to the "real felonies". Bear in mind, they're ignoring J6 and "gimme 12000 votes" call and the stolen docs. We joke, but this is literally Newsmax copy.

Content note: sexual assault. As I percolate thoughts further, I just wanna say, as the unfortunate owner of a fawn response, I have significantly more trauma from times I was "persuaded" than times the cops would call it rape. It's actually so much fucking worse when it's not violent... yet.

Multiple people have literally started masking because of my posts (they told me this directly) and stopped themselves (AND others) from living a life with additional chronic illness and early death. People underestimate the impact that they can have online.
It’s funny cause people tell me *all the time* how they’ve learned from me and found community through my posts and been uplifted and connected to others and gotten tools to recognize and fight hate and felt less alone in the world. But I guess fuck that right? I’m not accomplishing anything.

It's not just one or two people so I'm sharing this again. Please, think of disabled people. It's Disability Awareness Month so time to think about others. There is no need to post a whole string of emojis. It doesn't make your post stand out - it just makes me less likely to read and share it.
I understand the need for emojis to flag MA posts to the appropriate feeds but there are quite a few of you just spamming them. Next time you type a whole line of emojis, read them all out loud, full name, one by one. Now imagine having to use a screen reader and coming across that mess.

I've been seeing people saying that because JK Rowling routinely uses UK libel law to silence critics, Gaiman's failure to immediately do so shows his guilt. That's incorrect, and I think it's worth talking about why - it goes to important facets of defamation law abuse. 🧵⚖️
