This sort of thing has been going on for years. Eminently sensible. One of the greatest ever, Hans van Breukelen had a complete note system. Nowadays, I imagine there's a 21 year old data scientist for each team whose entire job is this.

I've also seen keepers throw the water bottle of the opposing keeper into the stands right before a penalty kick shootout.
