My sweetie got a box over him; I found a small sheet of plywood to slip under it (there was some delicate maneuvering to get all four feet+tail tucked in) and I carried him out and released him a few doors down. We hope he has neither trauma nor happy memories of our house.
We have him on video walking in like he owns the place - not a moment's hesitation - but when he and I noticed each other he suddenly became a LOT less confident.
I swear, we get better entertainment value out of the Blink cameras than any other streaming service. Neighborhood cats, raccoons, and now home-invading opossums - it's nonstop cabaret!
I encountered one in a garage once and I didn't care for that; I would not like to see one in my house.
I captured a squirrel in the house by standing on the kitchen table and dropping a laundry basket over it as it raced around.
Our opossum was obvs scared, but didn't freak out; I've heard what a nightmare a squirrel can be inside the house and I'm glad it ended well for you all!
It was college ( thus the crappy apartment with a squirrel hole in the roof) and we were all drunk so it's amazing that all humans and animals were unscathed
If it helps opossums are big gentle babies who use angry hissing and showing teeth as purely show defense. If they play dead you can push them out of your house with a broom, otherwise open a door and keep a broom between you and the dummy and it should leave
They sure are! They are great at making themselves seem vicious! I’ve seen videos of people (with leather gloves) put their hand in an opossum’s mouth and the opossum did nothing
