So an unexpected scandal is called "shocking". Is there a word for a scandal that everybody can see coming a mile away?

I cancelled my subscription earlier this year, but since it was a yearly fee I still have access for a few more months. The few times I click over there, I keep getting a banner asking me to resubscribe. There was a vanishingly small chance I might have - it's my hometown paper - but now? NOPE.

Not surprising. The Denver Post was Spanfellered as well. Per wikipedia: "The hedge fund [Alden Global Capital] has made 'relentless cost cuts' since taking ownership in 2010, . . ., principally by laying off the newspaper's staff." No one reads it anymore.

Maybe they see the writing on the wall but good Lord I hope they are not correct.

It is absolutely saddening, but it seems to be happening all around the world, Reforma in Mexico has gone through the same process, The Times (London) is not what it used to be. Whilst news are under/over reported, quality as depth in general seem to go down.

The paywall isn't the problem - journalists are allowed to charge money for what they do. The problem is growth at all costs instead of sustainable business.
