overall abortions didn't go down really, but we got this. Great job pro-life movement.
“Among the causes of infant deaths, one increased the most: congenital abnormalities, which increased 22.9% in Texas in children… That trend suggests that at least in some cases, parents were forced to carry a pregnancy to term while knowing their children had little to no chance of survival”

in retrospect "people who want an abortion work out how to travel to a blue state; people who need an abortion for medical reasons are trapped in their state and forced to give birth" makes sense as the post-Roe reality but don't remember this being the claim bsky.app/profile/maxk...
This isn't an unexpected byproduct of abortion bans, it's one of the intended goals. The "pro-life" movement wants to force carrying non-viable pregnancies to term, and they want to make doctors and hospitals afraid to provide maternal care.

Look at the bright side: at least some women and children were made to suffer

an entire movement dedicated to making emergency abortions difficult

otoh the pro-choice movement was always talking about back-alley abortions, but it turns out New Mexico and safe abortifacients exists. It's kinda amazing how few people saw this outcome that *only* medically necessary abortions are banned.

I think they're making a run at a nationwide abortion ban that, if implemented, will indeed make all abortions go down

It's the only thing that'd make sense but you do hear them talk about ending Roe v Wade being a great victory

I think they've learned their lesson about popularity and backlash, and are shutting the fuck up about their next planned steps
