Given how shockingly in the tank the media seems to be for Trump, I think this occurred precisely when it became clear he'd peel off more voters from Trump than from Biden
We kept hearing about how RFK Jr was poised to take advantage of historic dissatisfaction with the major party nominees and now he only pops up to say stuff like “people see a child driving and assume they know the whole story”

tomorrow we get my favorite constitutional oddity which is that there's a ~ 1 hour period in which all UK executive authority formally vests in the King

I have no idea the best path re Biden but I do know a solid week straight of “Biden Old” and “Rich Dems Worried” above-the-fold stories are *obscene* in the face of SCOTUS using the Constitution to wipe their asses purely in the service of reinstating a felon rapist as president. Crazy-making shit.

I can't tell which posts about British elections are shitposts or not. Cressida Gunch is no longer conservative MP for Shitsworth-upon-Thames? Sounds legit to me

2025 might bring us real fascism, but it will also bring us the gritty and compelling fictitious fascism of Andor season 2 so it's impossible to say if it will be good or bad

Ran into an old acquaintance who worked as an engineer Tesla for several years and recently quit to work for another electric propulsion startup. I gingerly asked him why, and he said "Elon is destroying everything good we've built, all the people I liked working with have quit"

This is one of the things that keeps me going: the whole right-wing project is so close to falling apart, if we can just win.
that the whole project is at serious and maybe fatal risk if trump is imprisoned or loses in the fall and that conservatives on the court have a duty to try to prevent that any way they can, through the most motivated reasoning they can conjure.

very much reflective of the lack of any real survival instinct among journalists that they think the big story today is whether biden will step down
“What makes you so confident you should be president?” is an actual question a reporter shouted at the incumbent who just warned about a reckless court decision that imperils democracy

I don’t think it’s an exaggeration at all to say the decision threatens the Republic. I might not have said so in 2015, before I saw how triumphantly lawless and autocratic the President could be, and how so many people would applaud it or at least shrug.
My friend and colleague Ken White has written a great thread describing some (but far from all) of the enormous problems with today's decision by Chief Justice Roberts granting Donald Trump criminal immunity on grounds never before accepted by any court. Today's decision threatens the Republic.

Norms are great, norms are amazing, norms are what stop us from cracking open each other's skulls and feasting on the goo inside. But, sadly, if you're fighting in defense of norms versus someone who's trying to tear them down, you're inherently fighting with one hand tied behind your back

Things are bad but all the more reason for optimism of the will and rejection of doomerism and nihilism. Only way out is through.

Doomerism is chickenshit. an embarrassment to every ape that threw a rock at a bear to protect the tribe. if you actually believe this doomer shit what are you posting for? it's chickenshit and i will have no truck with it. you had something better to do with your life than make the world better?

Trying to take this claim seriously and not dunk on this person, but: the 2016 election had very close margins thus was overdetermined. There are a dozen different things that could have gone differently that would have changed the result, we can actually all be correct here when assigning blame
it was definitely a chunk of lefty dissenters that just decided not to campaign in the midwest in the run up to the election
Avatar
Note that I did not make that claim, but don't let that stop you from the dunks
Avatar
This take is baffling. People were loudly saying this in 2016, large chunks of lefty dissenters maintained it was just a scare tactic, and then the lesser evil lost and the greater evil won and this is the direct result of that. The squishy liberal mind was proven emphatically correct
Why didn’t voting for the lesser evil stop this? And other questions for the liberal mind

Joe Brandon, please drone strike the SCOTUS building before they go home

Right. This isn't "identity politics", this is meat-and-potatoes coalition building stuff and it's utterly embarrassing that these people, when have been traditionally reliable, devoted, and involved coalition members, are just being ignored in this context. Disrespectful
I do find it's interesting how little the Black base of the democratic party is considered in the elite discussion of Biden dropping
Avatar
Turns out a political identity rooted in large part in anti-establishment tendencies has some drawbacks
Yeah - I mean we really don’t have any left wing institutions, and what there is tends to be activist based outside of politics, or intentionally apolitical
Avatar
The fact that Biden has delivered on left-wing policy far better than any president in generations but is widely despised by left-wing voters reflects more poorly on left-wing institutions and voters than on Biden. This is not a movement showing political maturity, and I say that as a left-winger
I feel like the main political divide on this website is between “Joe Biden is terrible and old and I hate him” and “Joe Biden is terrible and old and I will crawl over broken glass to vote for a rancid ham sandwich against Donald Trump” very few people are actually huge fans of the guy
