If you are like me and enjoy the esoteric, this SOCKS site is endlessly amusing. I’ve been lost for an hour or two just within some of the architecture offerings alone…now keeping the site tab open for repeated exploration for the next couple of weeks. socks-studio.com/2018/08/28/i...

Yes. I vouch for the effectiveness of lalochezia. It’s also a great antecedent and impetus towards then taking calm, focussed action.
Lalochezia [lal-uh-KEE-zee-uh] (n.) - The use of vulgar or foul language to relieve stress or pain. Used in a sentence: “Like a linguistic lightning bolt, Lulubelle LaRue let loose lewd lines of lalochezia to lighten the load of life's lingering lamentations.”

No fair! Now I want a circle/spiral bookshelf system for my home library…or for my school library…well, both, of course. (But, seriously cool bookstore idea/location.)
Dallas Airport has absolutely zilch on Terminal A at Newark. When Newark has its own bookstore that supports indies in NJ? I’m in love. I never thought I’d say that. #alaac24 #publibs #GLAMs #skybrarians 📚📜🍎✈️

our school library needs to buy a half dozen copies of this
THE CARTOONISTS CLUB, a new graphic novel, combines Raina Telgemeier & Scott McCloud’s trademark charm, reliability, and comics expertise to blend narrative, how-to, and the enchanting art of comics to inspire a new generation of young cartoonists. Coming from Scholastic/Graphix 4/1/2025!

There’s an article in SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL about a library system that replaced prizes for its summer reading program with donations. If kids read x amount of books the library would donate to a charity on their behalf. They reduced waste. Saved money & boosted participation. Very cool!

Weirdly, I got far less participation than expected for my #BooksOut4Summer/#SetTheBooksFree initiative…but, this month had about a 1000 things to do/remember for families at our school, so not too surprising? I also hyped it a bit later and less vigorously. Still, great event.

Where the inventory vibes are at now that there are only three days of work left till the holiday…
Library Inventory Reality Check: You may need to take a break when you’ve found yourself threatening inanimate books with being discarded after they keep falling over and generally are “not cooperating” as you shelve and re-organize sections.

Intriguing book, finished just now. (Bonus: Glows in the dark, a satisfying gimmick.) Although some topics in the #scienterrific examination of gross, weird, creepy reminded me of sections of other books I’ve read…maybe not everybody in my circle has read these other items in my see also pics?

This tiny novelty book is an absolute delight. Unhinged bizarro. My kind of awesome. It is bringing joy. Highly recommended. Thx to The Book Man for ordering it in for me recently. See also, bsky.app/profile/exli...
Indie bookshop, The Book Man, has fab staff. One of them running the online chat just now played along admirably with my lunacy as I ordered a book. Jane knew I’d one day need Rubbish Pet Portraits, but first readers & editors weren’t getting it—she changed to the iconic line as you now know it.

👍📚 Hooray For DNA: Fab picture book on a nonfic topic. Highly recommended. Teacher friend who’s kid goes to my school: “___ is telling me we are 25 or 24% grape...what is this?🤔 He said he was looking at a book called hooray for dna and it said…we are almost a quarter grape 🤣🤷🏼‍♀️” My reply in pics ⬇️

Years ago now, when we were getting more shelving added to the library, I submitted the design I wanted to the carpentry dept, I created this storage cupboard for folding tables—I still think I’m fairly brilliant at least once per week because of it (even though the carpenters were iffy about it).

Haven’t done paper mache with a class in at least 5 yrs. Used to do it every year, diff grades, SS or Sci tie-ins… Here’s the aftermath from earlier this week: Making decorative bowls; first layer on balloons… Drying on counter near my wasp nest—how apropos, I think. Also, here’s…

Annually, I do this design-your-ultimate-fort project with at least one Gr 5 class. It’s a #scienterrific #makerspace project in which they use recycled funky junk to turn a blueprint plan into a model fort that uses at least one example of each of the six #simplemachines.

I read Max Amato’s book Perfect to a few classes yesterday. I issued a challenge for kids to create sequels or inspired by books…said I’d have a prize for them if they did. One kid came back with this picture she’d made. Pretty cool! She got a book from the freebie cart.
