They were susceptible to powdery mildew and so is white pine. The lumber industry was threatened so they made it illegal to grow. It’s just now making its way back into agricultural production.

Ah. I didn’t realize it’s a tree. Our currants here are bushes and I’m definitely not a botanist.

They are definitely a bush but they infected the trees around them.

Oh, crumb. Thank you for the education!

PS evidently it makes excellent wine though.
