a physician who says the law does not allow abortion under those circumstances may well be wrong in their legal assessment, but a physician who says there is an unacceptable risk that a prosecutor and jury would not agree with their judgment that those circumstances exist is almost certainly right
This is pretty straightforward - you either believe the physicians and women who have been damaged by the law, or a partisan court who says there is no risk, and that everyone who says so is being irrational here.

what they want is to place all the risk of uncertain judgment calls and complex factual circumstances on doctors and their employers and insurance carriers and etc. we made the law, you guys figure out how to make it work. but hospitals can't work that way

If only there had been some other setup under which these decisions could be made between a patient and their doctor

authoritarian states usually don’t function with hard-and-fast rules, but with vague regulations and the constant risk of brutal reprisals, such as financial ruin, life imprisonment, or execution

When every single physician and their in house counsels in the state comes to the same conclusion, the answer is not that they are all obviously stupid and wrong.

Patient:"The doctor said i couldn't legally get an abortion!" Doctor: "i can't approve this abortion because i can't be sure a court would agree it's medically necessary and can't risk criminal charges!" Court of dumbasses: "uh no that doesn't happennnn"
