I've got a few hundred words about the lovely DINOSAUR in the latest issue of Virgin's inflight magazine. (It's on p.75 if you're curious.) flywith.virginatlantic.com/content/dam/...

I don't know if people are discoursing as hard about Tetsuya Naito's level of washedness over here, but I wrote a little bit about why I don't think the concept applies to him at all, anyway. #purosky sarahkurchak.substack.com/p/who-cares-...

Erik has great taste in writers, people about town, and wrestlers and you should listen to him.
One of my favourite writers about wrestling (and people about town), the indomitable @fodderfigure.bsky.social, on Hiroshi Tanahashi (and the geniuses who work smarter, not harder, with what they had then and what they got now). Well worth a read. #purosky open.substack.com/pub/sarahkur...

Everyone had diarrhea on the set of The Magnificent Seven.
ok i have another quote tweet prompt. what's something, big or small, related to your job or hobby, that most people don't know that you would like to have them know? it can be a concept, a piece of history, some vocabulary, or something else.

I'm in my hometown visiting and helping with random stuff. Went through storage with my mom and we found her childhood Beatles cards. Including the really flattering art she did on Ringo and George's faces.

Over at that other place, some stranger has been yelling at me all day because this piece failed to include a detailed explanation of what autism is and how it effects me. He seems to think that was necessary. And that there would have been room for it in my word count.

Daisuke Sasaki is an exceptional wrestler. Just wanted to put that out there.

The gif thing isn't an exaggeration. For almost four years now, I've been curating a thread of gifs that feature my favourite wrestler's most dramatic (and funniest) bumps and sells. My husband is convinced he's lurking on it. Every time we see my boy fall down, he says "that's your fault."
Hi, new followers! I'm glad you liked that Good Doctor article enough to follow me. I'm terrible at keeping up on here, but I'll continue to try. (It's not that I like the other place better. It's terrible. But it does allow me to make and post gifs of my favourite pro wrestler falling down.)

Oh, I also love telling people that everyone had diarrhea on the set of The Magnificent Seven.
Sarah, do you have thoughts on anything regarding the making of the film, The Magnificent Seven?
Dysfunction, Drama, and Diarrhea: The Making of ‘The Magnificent Seven’medium.com The set of the 1960s Western was awash in toxic masculinity, fragile egos, and gastrointestinal distress

I know the freelance market is a nightmare and I should be happy I'm getting any replies at all, but the wording of some of the rejections I've received lately has me questioning if I've lost my ability to write. Or if I ever had any.

I used to think The Smiths were the band that grew up with you (before I reached the level of grown up where I realized it was time to chuck Morrissey). Now I think it was really Pulp all along. Which I probably should have known. Jarvis promised "The Fear" would be here for me.

Barely an exaggeration!
I didn’t even tell Sarah to include Red Dwarf here! I just wrote her approximately a thousand words when she asked me for a brief explanation of why it’s good

I wrote this list because I was interested in the opportunity and needed the money. But most of all, I did it for the chance to make sure that Sapphire & Steel got on there.
I wrote a listicle for TIME. It features obvious classics, shows I respect, and personal picks that I was allowed to sneak in there. In no particular order except the order in which I felt like writing them. I kept most of my faves as a treat for the end. time.com/6958719/best...

But in other Instagram news, a video of me fisting a Dune bucket now has 113k views and 1200 likes.

I'm stuck in this horrible loop on Instagram where I get fed reels from autistic influencers, watch them, get mad at how reductive, exclusionary, and sometimes downright inaccurate they are (and that's before we even get to the sponcon) and then get fed even more autistic influencer reels.

I got the Dune bucket! It's the third best piece of official Dune merch I've ever owned.

Do you ever think about the scalpel-like precision of the lyric "I know her, used to follow everywhere we'd go/ And it's so sweet, now she's sleeping with a boy I know/ The boy I know knows a pretty girl in every town/ And the way they look, they were made to let each other down?"

I am hardly an expert on the topic, but I think the best portrayals of the Happy Mondays and their surrounding culture in movies and TV are: 1. That first scene in 24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE 2. Wicky's fandom of the band in THE CLEANER, especially the flashbacks
Avatar
Apologies for the double dipping, because I already posted a version of this elsewhere, but the introduction of the Happy Mondays in 24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE remains perfect.

There's still not nearly enough people posting about Tetsuya Endo and Daisuke Sasaki over here.

After decades of absolutely refusing to properly differentiate between The Charlatans and Inspiral Carpets, my brain has randomly decided to love the latter.
