As a kid, I loved shows like Unsolved Mysteries for the spooky thrills the supernatural segments offered. As an adult, it's hard not to connect the public's lack of media literacy in part with the horrendously skewed way these stories are reported to give full-on batshittery an air of credibility.

Like, Robert Stack clearly wants to take his own life rather than lend his gravitas to yet another story involving a crazy-eyed whackadoo insisting the video they shot of beavers swimming is actually a lake monster, but the producers found some crackpot PhD to advance the crazy, so here he is.

Watching an episode of Sightings right now and one of the crackpot "experts" took a random jawbone found in the woods and, believing it belonged to a sasquatch, used it to model a skull, which he presents as "science."
