Here’s our native Castilleja miniata blooming at Diamond Lake in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. The red bits are bracts, not the flowers. 😎
Hay bales starting their migration south this morning in North Park. Once huge herds of these covered the plains, today their numbers are greatly reduced. These are done fattening up before their long journey. 🌿

Spy your quarry, begin stealth approach
Don’t startle plant otherwise it will flee!
Grab it by the neck to prevent escape

Rhododendron albiflorum, our uncommon native White-flowered Rhododendron, blooming today in the Mount Zirkel/Park Range area of the Routt National Forest in northwestern Colorado which is the only place it grows in Colorado. 🌿 😎
