All they had to do was include a line for what the average person is currently earning.

But then people would realize no one is living comfortably and maybe unite to do something about it! They need to keep up the illusion it’s just you and you need to work harder and that anyone who doesn’t is just lazy

It takes that much money to live "comfortably"? What does "comfortably" mean anyway?

Housing, food, transportation, and bills without worrying about every penny. That's my benchmark anyway. Their criteria may be more or less generous.

I live in a smaller town and that amount would be just enough to maybe be able to worry about food and gas a bit less, but in an actual city you would need at least twice that. Money is insane now.

My salary isn't even half that for me, a single adult.

I make less than this in an area that I'm pretty sure is more expensive than the Tampa/St. Pete median and I'm quite comfortable. Is this because I don't spend $3600/month on candles?

Maybe part of the problem is that "comfortably" often means in unsustainable, usually unjustifiable luxury.

I make about half that before taxes and it's considered okayish. Wtf is "comfortably" supposed to mean? A 3 bedroom house? 2 cars? Being able to afford doctor bills?

This is likely also misleading by displaying gross salary rather than adjusted for taxes.
