Physics grad student @ Caltech working on the CIBER-2 cosmic infrared background space telescope, but I mainly post about wildlife/nature photography and birding here | Pasadena, California | All photos are my own!
I feel like I think about this way too much but why does gas station canned iced coffee with milk and NO SUGAR not exist in America, it's either a gallon of sugar per can or *maybe* black coffee, nothing in between. Why are we so obsessed with sugar it doesn't even taste good at this point
Before I head back to Rota, I will be on Saipan for a few days. Canario here (Golden White-eye) is an endangered species found only on Saipan and Aguijan, though it probably was also on Tinian and Rota in the past. Their thrush-like habits and songs are very unlike most other white-eyes. 🎨🪶🐡🌏
I got to see this stunning breeding plumaged male White-winged Fairywren in the desert around Shark Bay last month - Australia may not have hummingbirds but they've got strong competition from these 🪶📷
Very big Northern Elephant Seals from San Simeon, California on the central coast today - these huge guys can weigh up to 2 metric tons and looks extremely silly trying to flop around the beach #mammals I hadn't been up to see them in at least 4 years!
Mangrove fantail, an Australian-endemic bird found in (you guessed it) mangroves on the northwestern quadrant of the continent. I photographed this one along a bush-fly-infested mangrove-lined inlet near Denham, WA on the Peron Peninsula 🪶📷
