My colours on @garyerskine.bsky.social inks for 'Rogue Trooper: Mortal Remains', a short story for 2000adcomic a couple of years back. Gnarly zombies, post-apocalyptic grunge and derelict sci-fi. What's not to love?! Compare the inked page before my contribution. 😉 #comics

Smile, 2022. Dir: Parker Finn Went into this one blind and 'enjoyed' the film for the most part. The persistent nihilism and weight put on the protagonist kinda wore me down, to be honest, but worth the watch. The ending broke me. Looking to watch a second time tonight and hope it still holds up.

Basket of Bread or Basket of Bread-Rather Death Than Shame, Salvador Dali, 1945. Dali painted this at 22. I first saw Basket of Bread as a print offered along with his Surrealist work in Heavy Metal magazine in the early 80s. Then I saw the original in the Dali Museum, Figueres years later. 1/

‘Christ of St John of the Cross’ by Salvador Dalí, 1951. The painting returns to it's home in Glasgow. Worth seeing in situ. An astounding piece of work bought by the School of Art in 1952 and a genuinely emotional experience witnessing this in person. You will not be disappointed.

It Follows, 2015. Dir: David Robert Mitchell Still has a languid pace and slightly detached performances from the principals but enjoyed this old-school approach and love letter to early John Carpenter. A simple enough premise and setup leads to a mostly satisfying conclusion. Recommended.

Blade Runner and and the lesser known OUTLAND are two of my favourite films and both are from the same studio. That logo is so familiar and reassuring. The horn fanfare by John Williams also helps. Sadly, the company is no more but plenty to like from these two classic films. OUTLAND is recommended.

Christina's World, Andrew Wyeth. 1948.

Nope, 2022. Dir. Jordan Peele Love this film. The slow meandering pace could have been trimmed in places but plenty to like: great performances from the principals and some absolutely original scenes with the Jean Jacket ship design being the standout. A studio favourite.

October Rust, Type O Negative. 1996. Top Ten all time favourite record. A wonderfully rich anthemic gothic rock album that is always welcome and a regular play in the studio. Recommended.

Doctor Sleep, 2019. Dir: Mike Flanagan. Director's Cut, of course. An absolute favourite here.

Michael Nyman's scores for Peter Greenaway's films provide the studio playlist. Perfection.

Flash Gordon, Queen. 1980. A near perfect score by Queen for the Mike Hodges film featuring THAT theme intercut with dialogue and orchestration elsewhere. Bold and brash with an 80s excess to compliment the stylish design and characters. Play loud.

ALIEN OST, 1979. Music by Jerry Goldsmith. More melodic than expected with the opening theme playing conventionally but with a hint of menace. Elsewhere, the music contains some discordant themes by Goldsmith similar to his Planet of the Apes score. A studio favourite.

Run Lola Run, Lola Rennt. 1998. If you haven't seen this wonderfully creative film then I wholly recommend it. There's a Groundhog Day vibe to the three vignettes and the visual energy and narrative tricks employed by director Tom Twyker are infectious. Franka Potente is astounding.
