Memory is hazy but I want to say the Wallets numbered maybe 9-10 that night — with more horns and some backup vocalists. I have some memory of Steve Kramer calling the horns the “Billfolds.”
I believe it was also the first occasion I ever heard a Prince song — “Do It All Night” over the house PA.
The Prince bit? The memory is specific. It was either between sets or after the show. I’d wandered down front to watch the crews move stuff. That was playing and I thought it was catchy and great. He repeats the chorus so many times it lodged in my mind. It was at least a year before I identfied it.
