Yes, the Pope excommunicated him for basically opposing his papal stance on same-sex marriage, pro-immigration, and anti-capitalism but that stance is largely marketing, something we know because he's had to apologize TWICE after it leaked he used the Italian word for "faggot" in closed meetings.

So this is like when Mommy and Daddy fight and Mommy tells Daddy this marriage is over, but you don't really want to live with Mommy OR Daddy. He wasn't kicked out because the Pope has a firm difference of opinion on the issues, he was kicked out for being vocal about it and doubting the Pope.

The jokes truly do write themselves. Might I recommend purchasing a few plenary indulgences before making them?

He also says that the Pope knew about abuse by priests and failed to act. How bad does the abuse have to be before a conservative member of the church says, “That’s fucked up.”?

Which is terrible, but the mountain of evidence of concerted efforts to cover Catholic abuse (I'm speaking this LOUDLY in Kamala's direction) convinces me that I should assume the Pope knows or has access to the information to know as a default. If only their morals were as tight as their records.
