I enjoyed some of his work (e.g., “Animal House”), though as much as people talk about him as if he was a misunderstood genius, someone made a good point regarding his treatment of women and others: “He was an a-hole with some talent and friends who keep propping him up and giving him a free pass.”

I think you’re thinking about John, who I loved as a kid. I’m thinking of his unfunny younger brother Jim, who joined SNL in the 80s.

My bad! I’ll blame the heat. Though I won’t retract my statement about John, I’ll concur that Jim only has a career because of his last name. Not for talent.
