This is just a theory of mine. Many people who lack the ability to have empathy get into positions of power and connect together through political and wealth culture. 'woke' is more then just another buzzword to them and represents their dislike of empathy in society.

I suspect there's a reliable percentage of people who cannot experience empathy in these social circles.

Exactly. Folks without empathy would likely view caring about others as a weakness and genuinely oppose "Wokeness".
