Today is the 20th anniversary of Samurai Champloo and I'm reminded of an interview Chad Kime did on ANNCast years ago.

He was talking about how Champloo was expected to sell a whole lot of copies "because it was that sort of show" and the entire time I just thought "WHY DON'T THEY MAKE MORE OF THAT TYPE OF SHOW?"

That whole episode was genuinely eye-opening. The points where he just glibly recounted the entire saga of Heat Guy J, and the Katamari of bullshit licenses are still utterly breathtaking.

Yeah, that whole episode was amazing, Chad was a great guy who I miss seeing at conventions and him recounting how they basically paid for new licenses with "promises" of sales for existing licenses which didn't happen is crazy, the entire thing was a house of cards.

Likewise. I really enjoyed talking with him when I was working the trenches where he was showing. Really cool guy, and honestly, I'd love to just buy him a drink as thanks for dealing with the bullshit he had to over the years.
