We used to have these at a park a mile away, and another nature reserve in a nearby town. Now pushed out by growth. 😭

Same park had ouzel (American dipper), deer and we even encountered a baby heron (GBH probably), slowly picking its way along the path on those gangly legs. I am still ID-ing new, interesting native plants there though and the beaver family (Ward, June and Beaver Cleaver) were often out at dawn

That sounds like a wonderful place! Hurray for beavers!

Ward Cleaver Beaver also slapped his tail in warning, a couple times when family was out swimming at dawn. Still lots to see, if you really look, can be quiet and patient.

That tail slap can be so loud! Especially in a quiet dawn I imagine
