On Friday, at queer-owned activist bookstore Bluestockings, I saw Bianca Xunise (pic) in person after previously talking to them virtually for my Kirkus Reviews Q&A on their new book, Punk Rock Karaoke. They said their next book will be horror, and the (mostly) masked crowd went "Aaah!" #books #NYC

The #GraphicNovel with #zine at the end follows friends and bandmates Ari, Michele and Gael—punks of color and queer—as they graduate high school and enter the real world. www.kirkusreviews.com/news-and-fea...

Grateful to everyone who stopped by our mini-Black zine fair in Harlem yesterday. It was so great to be outdoors on a beautiful day. Thanks to the exhibitors, to the Schomburg center for having us. The past few weeks have been a whirlwind and I welcome some upcoming downtime and rests.

Had a great time at #NYC Feminist Zinefest 2024 yesterday at Barnard College. Appreciated the indoor masking policy and diversity of tablers, some from as far away as the San Francisco Bay Area. Enjoyed chatting with folks, and I had a pretty good haul. feministzinefestnyc.com #zines #FZFNYC #NYC

Reuters is reporting that six people who are missing and presumed dead after the bridge collapse were “part of a work crew filling potholes on the road surface,” so likely Brown folks and/or immigrant laborers. My heart goes out to their loved ones. www.reuters.com/world/us/16-...
I’m seeing news of the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore in my home state of Maryland. My fear is, in addition to cold water temps impacting chances of survival, those suddenly submerged might be Black folks who, due to institutional racism, can’t swim, increasing their panic. 😢

I think this whole DEI hysteria in the US is mostly to cover up for the increasingly visible inability of capitalism to keep the world running in any safe manner whatsoever. (it's also of course partly good old fashioned white supremacy).

Can't help but think decades of neglect in the hands of private companies and the whole tender process was a factor in this Baltimore bridge collapse

#IVoted early today. It was so easy and actually enjoyable (thanks mostly to the senior citizen volunteers, especially the Black grandmotherly types who called me “baby”). Plus, I got a pen and a sticker. Vote early through Saturday, March 30. #PresidentialPrimary #PresidentialPrimaryElection #NYC
#EarlyVoting starts today in New York City. I’ve always voted on Election Day, but I think I’ll take advantage of early #voting for the first time in my life. Cool that there are weekend hours. www.nycvotes.org/how-to-vote/... #PrimaryElection #PresidentialPrimaryElection #NYC

I had a wonderful conversation with the author and submitted my article earlier today—three days before deadline 🙌🏾 I expect the next couple of days will be a back and forth with the editor about suggested changes (which I welcome). #AmWriting
In an email from a publicist, I was told “Thanks so much for these amazing and thoughtful questions!” that I came up with for an interview I’m conducting with their author. That made me feel good 😊 I’m looking forward to chatting with the author (for a piece to be published in May). ✍🏾 #AmWriting
