Harbergery  [hahr-BER-juh-ree] (n.) - A place of entertainment such as an inn, tavern or public house. Used in a sentence: “I’m meeting my chumrades at our customary harbergery to watch the Lemur in the Gyre semi-finals.” __ Purvey my sesquipedalian lexicon! bit.ly/GWOTDbook

Do you know what the etymology of this might be? Wondering if it's from Fr. 'auberge' - an inn.

My own notes may be incomplete, so you are probably correct. I'll look into that and amend. But here's what I have: From Middle English “herberwe" probably from Old English “herebeorg” (lodging)

from “heri” (army) + a Germanic base meaning “fortified place”

Interesting. In Danish the word “herberg” is still used to describe a place that provides a bed and possibly a meal.

Fascinating! Sounds like they all intermingle somehow, although I suppose that doesn't definitely mean they do.

From Middle English “herberwe” probably from Old English “herebeorg” (lodging) from Old French "herbergere" (harbinger) from "herbergier" (to lodge) from “herbergere” from “herbergier” (provide lodging for) from “herberge” (lodging) from Old Saxon “heriberga” (shelter for an army, lodging)

Stealing chumrades. That's an excellent word.
