Netanyahu would sooner kill every last Israeli hostage with his own two hands than end the Gaza Nakba.
In its latest Gaza cease-fire proposal, Hamas wants assurances that Israel won’t restart the war after some hostages come home, according to two senior officials from countries involved in the negotiations. Israeli negotiators immediately rejected that demand, the officials said.

Maybe having civilization in all its iterations be based around narcissism cults at the centers of power was not such a great idea after all

They truly hate that their job involves anything meaningful at all. Would rather it just be gossip with extreme social consequences. If Trump arrests real journalists they'll be so happy to be snide to each other how people whose work they were jealous of deserved what they got.
American "politics" reporters, boy, I dunno

Just have to note that the black commentators I’ve seen on the Biden issue have some of the sanest takes by far.

Like, yes, ok, the media owns some of this. But also ... if you have a campaign, literally any of those are gigaquake events to change the tide and frame what you're going to do and take that message to the voters, and how exactly is it the campaign can't capitalize on it? That's the issue

This week SCOTUS killed Chevron deference, gave Trump total immunity, and Trump was credibly tied to Epstein, and it seems to me if your campaign somehow seriously can't find a way to then change the topic of conversation in the newspapers or stop your party panicking, what are we doing here exactly

Free idea for Biden: drop a court packing plan right now and that’ll change the conversation REAL quick
wapo.st/4cL9VSL Gift article: Tribe said he would like to see Biden & other Dems make a renewed push to expand the number of justices on the court, a liberal demand that Biden agreed to study but has not embraced. “If he wins the forthcoming election, I will be pressing him to [expand the court]"

Bush v. Gore was one of the many huge tipping points where Republicans realized that the "opposition party" would simply roll over and take it and that they could do so much more.
Where we're at now: Everybody go vote and hope these fascists don't overturn it on equally specious grounds.... And I keep coming back to Bush v Gore. That never should've been tolerated, but nobody had the guts to stand up to them. Seems like exhibit A in "how we got here." Such a bad scene.

I spent a summer in Beijing a couple of years after Tiananmen. Most of the people I interacted with seemed fairly happy. Also, they held a mass execution in a soccer stadium and who the hell knows if they were guilty or just pissed off the wrong people.

a thing to remember, in all of this horror, is that these are not the actions of a political party that is confident it represents the will of the people, and who is currently out of power and enslaved to a deeply flawed avatar. the struggle is not over and they have not won

Whew. Biden campaign manager insists he won’t step down, but is nevertheless walking donors through mechanics of how that would work. Call also discussed who would replace him; and even fielded some requests for refunds. Good lord.

I had a few more discussions today with people about how I plan to explicitly not vote for Biden. Lots of respectful conversations about it. Totally get how people can come to different conclusions. But there has been so much transparent lying these past 72 hours. It’s scary and sad.

when elites have total impunity, people think the system is broken when people think the system is broken, they support more extremist groups when the extremist groups come to power, well...
Not making any threats here, just thinking out loud as a historian — do they people brazenly pushing for impunity for the wealthy elites not know what traditionally comes next?

I do think media coverage matters and the disaster last night probably made some of it worse, but we were already in a crisis of normal people encountering journalists who openly long for Trump’s return, hate Biden, and twist their coverage to match. This is a media crisis, not a Biden crisis.

I am so unimpressed by the liberals on the court. If they really wanted to do something about these out of control nuts, they would stop writing angry opinions, hold a press conference, and just tell the world “this is bullshit and you shouldn’t listen to a word these fascists say”.
