I remember this set of photos from the National Geographic at the time.

This is great! Do you have a name for the photographer (or hiker)?

Online sources say it is credited to John V. Christiansen & published in National Geographic magazine. I don’t know who the hiker is. It was taken on Mt. Adams.

Dug a little more; the hiker is Suzanne Christiansen, photographer Jack’s wife.

I imagine that having just summited a similarly sized mountain, the climbers were uniquely equipped to appreciate the scale of what they were witnessing.
