The shibboleth of the Millennial / Gen Z divide is undoubtedly little pictures of faces.
Gen Z can keep "emoji" -- "emoticon" forever! Also, shibboleth is a really cool word with an interesting history

I'm Gen X, and we were calling them "emoticons" way back when we were typing colon-close-parentheses into email and ICQ. :) I thought those were smilies That too, but "emoticon" sounded cooler, like you were speaking in that 1970s computer font. 😁
