Part of the whole thing with the Knicks is memory holing the real Knicks legends whose relationship with the toxic owner is so bad that they don't show up and aren't part of this.
Like all due respect to Walt Frazier, who I love, and BK/Nets legend Stephon Marbury, but the fact Ewing and Oakley were not properly respected by this team is a big part of why I dropped them many years ago and now root for Brooklyn.
Also I saw some Knicks promos calling Allan Houston a "legend," which is a real stretch that makes all this more glaring. The Knicks are Dolan's team. He blew his own legacy repeatedly and has yet to build a ring contender.
I have limited my sports posts in the new social media era but I had to get this off my chest. I have personally talked about this with Ewing, Starks, and Oakley, who was cheering on the Nets at Barclays. Ewing personally blessed my Nets fandom and told me he appreciated it.
In this TikTok meme version of NYC folks like to pretend losing with the Knicks has some kind of authenticity. Any real back in the day Knicks fan should be as mad as I am. Most friends I know didn't fully make the switch but they get me 100%. Claiming legends are in the building is offensive.
Ewing has been there a ton, and it’s not the org that disrespected him it was the fans for a bit and mostly media for never getting over hump. You don’t switch teams because of an owner who will never outlast the team. I am sure Prokarov and now Tsai are just perfect humans.
He literally did! When I met Starks, we talked about it. He said a lot of the guys from that era feel as I do. I hung with Oakley at Barclays once. He showed up in Nets black soon after he got banned. No true New Yorker should be cheering for Dolan. I'm not a Rangers fan either.
grew up a rangers and knicks fan, and i kinda outgrew both teams/sports over the last couple of decades in large part because of dolan. it kills me that my favorite band's favorite venue to play is MSG.
