There is an imbalance between what is news and what news orgs believe news to be, and this whole Biden-must-step-down cycle, now more than a week on front pages, is a prime example of that. Notice the breadth of this-from news to opinion-and lack of balance on Trump and the right wing power grab.
A day later the NYT continues its wall-to-wall coverage on Biden's candidacy. Still waiting for the "Trump should bow out" coverage. On the day we celebrate our independence from a king, and 4 days from when SCOTUS sets up the possibility of a king, this is what our media is focused on.

Think about it this way: when did any GOP Senator assemble a group of other GOP senators to: A) ask Trump to step aside when he exhibited senile moments (like telling Americans to inject bleach into their veins) B) vote to impeach Trump C) ask Trump not to run after being convicted of a crime.

Has anyone interviewed military members about their thoughts that the Supreme Court from one POV and Trumpism from another POV have kinda eliminated or are threatening to eliminate the freedoms they supposedly serve for? And what they’d do if ordered by Trump to break their oaths? Would read.

Perfect parenthetical: “(Mr. Bannon himself did not host the show on Tuesday, because he reported to prison the day before to serve a sentence for contempt of Congress.)” More of these stories and fewer Biden eats dinner at 3pm stories, please.

Feel like we really shouldn’t be celebrating America tonight with pageantry and fireworks. We haven’t really earned it lately.

And our most influential news organizations empower the first two and push the last one through editorial choices - frames, sources, language, story selection. The idea that political journalism is a horse race or filled with tension has enabled These Times.
right wing think tanks are making thinly veiled threats of political violence, the Supreme Court has neutralized the regulatory power of broad swaths of government, and the fate of the executive branch depends on whether the 81 year old atop it can learn to breakdance or something. Happy July 4th

Why I Don't Vote (OK, I Do Vote, but I Would Like to Discourage You, NY Times Reader, For Doing So For Some Reason) Via @bubbaprog.ilovecitr.us
Man, if it turns out that the right winger telling NY Times readers that they should follow his example and not vote did in fact vote in the last two elections, the Times should add this to the piece. Better than a retraction, since it illustrates a willful hypocrisy.

It's pretty disheartening to see the most influential news org push a narrative that, while important, is by no means the most important story right now. A week after a poor performance, the top 4 stories on the NYT homepage is about Biden's mental facilities. Meanwhile democracy dies in the open.

Would very much like media to ask voters if they think Trump is too much of a convicted felon to run for president, or too corrupt, or too much of a sexual abuser, or for fucks sake, too old, and then run those stories every day.

This, by the way, is the same playbook the NYT followed re: Claudine Gay and Harvard. The NYT sets the agenda (which, coincidentally is what the bad-faith actors want even though they despise the NYT), then the other news orgs follow, then the leader resigns, then the news media moves on.
