Een paar gigantische buien hier vanavond. De eerste kondigde zich aan met een zogeheten downburst. Je ziet de inhoud van de wolk naar beneden vallen. Dat gaat gepaard met enorme wind en een zondvloed aan regen.

In the early Twitter days science types would show up and post when they had a new paper. Wonderful! But real talk y'all: papers take ages to write. So, post about other people's stuff! You read a paper and it was cool! Or you had a question! Or it tied to this other thing! Tag the authors!

Science folks, one thing about bluesky is there's way less 2 way interaction between people, especially on science posts, than there was on old Twitter. I'm not sure why that is, but it's something I'm keen to encourage. I'd love to hear your thoughts 🧪

Gisteravond, lichtende nachtwolken boven Hellevoetsluis

Prachtige lichtende nachtwolken (#noctilucentclouds) gisteravond. Heel wat mensen zullen ze gezien hebben. Hier belemmerden het zicht enigszins, maar toch nog altijd heel mooi.

#Noctilucentclouds again last night. Visible in the early morning hours. Very low over the horizon north to northwest. Moderate here, spectacular over the northern British isles and Ireland. Image taken at 02:59 CEST (UT+2).

Extreem zorgwekkend dit. Ik hoop dat dit een uitzondering was. Ik verander helemaal niets aan mijn onderwijs onder invloed van de nieuwe politieke meerderheid.

Vandaag een gesprek waarin bleek dat er mensen zijn die nu al rekening houden met het feit dat onderwijsmateriaal wel 'politiek neutraal' zal moeten zijn. Ook als het duidelijk is dat die neutraliteit betekent: zeggen wat rechts voor 'normaal' houdt, al is dat tegen alle wetenschappelijke feiten in.

Ook na twintig jaar is grafeen nog steeds een wondermateriaal, al is de hype nu wel voorbijwww.nrc.nl Natuurkunde: De ontdekking van grafeen was goed voor een Nobelprijs. De hype is voorbij, maar het materiaal is nog steeds „bijzonder en verrassend”.

1/x Als de #ISS EP6 battery rond dat tijdstip nog niet is neergekomen, dan is dit het waarschijnlijke traject, rond 19:17 NL tijd, langs de hemel, voor drie plaatsen in noord, midden, zuid NL. NB: ONZEKERHEID van +- 5 minuten in de tijdstippen !!!!

I’ve been reworking old data with new techniques. This is a particular toughie, Simeis147 - The Spaghetti Nebula. It a huge but very feint supernova remnant straddling Taurus/Auriga border. Noisy as hell as I’ve pushed it to bring out the form. This is nearly 20 hours over 5 sessions with Redcat51

Ik zit nog steeds op v/h twitter vanwege een aantal geweldig mooie netwerken. En je kunt er rechtstreeks contact hebben met astronauten in het ruimtestation ISS!
