There's a story I see go around that at one point in filming Tim Allen got so emotional that he had to go back to his trailer bc he "didn't like these feelings I'm having". And after he left a stunned Alan Rickman said "oh my God I think he just experienced acting".

yeah his "real" character (fred kwan, which he says isn't even his real name) isn't supposed to be asian, just like shalhoub isn't, and star trek itself didn't do that, but a lot of shows of the era did, which is more obvious in the clips from the "show"
